The Scion Music(less) Music Conference is an annual event held in Los Angeles, California. Participants include prolific metal producer Kurt Ballou, hip-hop hero The 45 King, dance music sampling champion Todd Edwards, and premiere remixer and producer XXXChange. The Scion Music(less) Music Conference consists of panels, interviews, and workshops designed to offer insights and practical advice for those looking to enter or take their next step in the music industry. Each presentation is filmed in high definition and offered for free so it can exist as a digital resource to those who are interested in expanding their creative possibilities or improving their business approach.
A central part of the Scion Music(less) Music Conference was a series of in-depth one-on-one interviews with producers. The producers had the opportunity to explain the details and realities of their profession, as well as reflect on their own histories.
Kurt Ballou, interviewed by Adam Shore, is a member of Converge. Along with producing some of that group’s most loved albums, he has also worked with dozens of metal and punk acts, including Cave In, Disfear, Torche, Trap Them, Magrudergrind, Black Breath, and Kvelertak.
The 45 King, interviewed by Sacha Jenkins, is an innovative hip-hop producer and DJ with a historic career. He was a founding member of Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit and was behind hits including Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life,” Eminem’s “Stan,” and his own “The 900 Number.”
